CCC launches in the spring of 2008, spearheaded by Dr. Melissa Schons Bishop.
Dr. Bishop has taught in the field of Classics since 1993, at both the high school and college levels. In 2002, she received the prestigious "Award for Excellence in Pre-Collegiate Teaching" from the American Philological Association, in recognition of her dynamic, active learning methods and also her infusion of technology into the Latin curriculum. Since that time, Dr. Bishop has frequently presented pedagogical workshops at local and regional classics conferences and was invited to join the Master Teacher Advisory Board for the fourth edition revision of Ecce Romani.
The concept of CCC is unique - the company is designed to be a resource for Latin teachers, on all levels of teaching and will offer curricular materials that can be implemented immediately into a class, monthly memberships with incredible features, and online classes that can earn CEUs and exclusively address the unique professional development issues that concern Latin teachers and our field. All CCC products are designed and written by Latin teachers for Latin teachers, keeping the special considerations of teaching an ancient language at the forefront. The publications you will find in our storefront are all self-contained curricular units or specific tools that go along with various textbooks. Our initial offerings support Ecce Romani (all levels), Fabulae Graecae, Fabulae Romanae, Balme & Morwood's Cupid & Psyche, and all texts included in the Advanced Placement syllabi. In addition, Dr. Bishop is writing a "mix & match" Latin 3 curriculum for CCC called "Reading Myth". All readings are stories from mythology and all units will feature the equipment in the CCC toolbox. The materials CCC offers are curricular activities and tools that make the process of teaching much easier - for both the students and for you.
CCC intends to address several gaps in high-school Latin instruction, particularly in the upper levels of a program - Latin 3 and Advanced Placement. The main emphasis in all our materials is on student learning and retention, as well as on creating a resource that can save teachers time in and out of class. We also aim to provide opportunities for Latin teachers to find materials and support they need, which can be challenging, especially if you are the only Latin teacher for miles around.
CCC will also offer custom curriculum design, support for homeschoolers, coaching, and short-term troubleshooting services.
